Metroplex

Located on a prominent site adjacent to the sea in Mumbai, India, the new mixed-use Metroplex development includes nearly 1 Million sf of commercial office space and 342 two to four bedroom units of residential housing on approximately 10 acres. The challenge for Sorg was to meet the client’s requirement that each unit have sea views, while meeting a restrictive Indian code, which requires natural ventilation of all rooms. These luxury condominiums are planned so that every unit boasts a sea view, while at the same time maintaining an efficient core design. The design mitigates the wall-like effect that could otherwise have resulted from the code requirements through modulating the tower orientation and through the stacking blocks design of the two-story through units, creating a design that undulates along the shore line, reflecting the geography of the site, as well as the subtle motion of the waves and the western light over the ocean.
