Historic Preservation

The past and the present stand shoulder to shoulder in every city. While derelict structures may sometimes be razed to make way for development and progress, we often need to find ways to preserve historic buildings and neighborhoods.

Many of our projects have involved historic preservation and adaptive reuse to extend the life and increase the usefulness of our architectural heritage. We have designed additions to historic buildings that add functionality while preserving a legacy.

We have restored iconic buildings so that they welcome a new generation of residents. Working with local stakeholders, we have been able to imagine new uses for what is already in place, and fill in to increase housing stock while preserving the flair of a historic city square.

Our restoration and rehabilitation projects have given new life to educational and community facilities, residential projects, retail destinations, and government offices. When contemporary architecture and historic structures stand together, it’s an important statement about who we are. The interplay between past and present, the connection between different architectural styles that represent moments in time, makes us know our place in history – where we have been and where we are going. We can see the present through the lens of the past, and our vision of the future becomes clear.
