The restoration and adaptive reuse of the Station is part of a larger revitalization effort to bring new life and activity into this historic but neglected part of Richmond, Virginia. As historic preservation architects for the modernization of the National Historic Landmark, Sorg prepared a Historic Structures Report, performed mortar and paint analysis, prepared a materials conservation analysis, and supplied design guidelines and recommendations for the restoration of the French Renaissance style station. Sorg also provided design services for the station’s interior restoration, including the head house and 50,000 SF train shed.
