Southern Region Aquatic & Wellness Center

The Southern Regional Aquatic Wellness Center is colocated with the Sorg designed Southern Regional Technology & Recreation Complex and located in Fort Washington, Maryland. This 17,600 SF indoor aquatic center serves a multi-generational community and has a special focus on providing hydrotherapy services.

Major program spaces include a natatorium, multipurpose room, exercise room, therapy room, family change and locker rooms, offices, work rooms, and storage areas. The natatorium has been designed to incorporate three separate pools: a warm water teaching/therapy pool, a larger recreation/lap pool, and a small spa. In order to reduce energy demand, this space utilizes highly efficient filtration equipment and mechanical systems and maximizes daylighting by incorporating a number of skylights which are configured to capture the diffuse northern light. The design of both the building and site reflect the County’s commitment to sustainability, visually as well as operationally, and the Aquatic Wellness Center is designed to achieve LEED Silver Certification.
