The renovation of the young adult space at the Martin Luther King Library for DC Public Libraries aimed to modernize this portion of the larger 1960’s era building. The new design included the addition of a sitting area with more multimedia capabilities, several study rooms of various sizes, an office with a small testing area, and a new computer lab to assist the users with homework and Internet access. The Black Studies Center was established along with the MLK Library to collect documents related to the African diaspora focusing on African American culture. As such, the entry area prominently displays the portraits of many key
