DC Stabilization & Sobering Center

The District of Columbia Stabilization and Sobering Center (DCSSC) renovation is envisioned to provide a holistic therapeutic environment where consumers can be supported on their personal journeys of recovery.

The newly renovated DCSSC space will occupy the majority of the first floor of a roughly 29,000 square foot existing concrete building located at 35 K NE Street in Washington, D.C. It serves users on a daily basis, as well as accommodate overnight short-term stays.

The design creates an environment that is welcoming, thoughtful, and therapeutic, while keeping in mind universal accessibility, visibility, operational considerations, and safety.

An accessible building entry, complete with ambulance parking, is situated along the east side of the building. A new exterior addition provides a vestibule, freeing up additional space within the building for the program. The user-focused program includes a check-in and waiting area, short-term stay accommodations, exam rooms, and a nursing station. Offices and staff support spaces are located along the western edge of the building and are accessed from a secure hallway.
